What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning universal life energy. It is a natural healing energy activated by intention. Reiki works on every level, the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects.
What to expect during a Reiki treatment...
During a treatment Reiki energy flows from the therapists hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. You do not need to remove any clothing except for your coat and shoes.
The therapist places their hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the knees and feet. The seven chakras will be checked, opened and balanced during the session.
How long will the treatment last?
Each position is held for around three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts between 30 to 55 minutes.
The Practitioner will take a short case history prior to the treatment and a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you and then reviewed as necessary.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Peoples experiences can vary during a Reiki treatment. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and wellbeing is experienced.
People can experience seeing colours, hearing sounds or feeling a sensation from one of their other senses. Some people drift off to sleep or report floating outside of their bodies. Others may experience high emotion or elation. Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment.
